Alberta Water Learning Network
Session One: June 2009
The first session of the Alberta Boreal Learning Network took place from mid day June 1 to early afternoon June 3 at Rundles Mission on Pigeon Lake just SW of Edmonton. The theme of the gathering was resource capacity and so focused on both fundraising as well as garnering the human resources (staff, board, volunteers) needed to effect social change in the nonprofit sector.
Through promotion, outreach and recruitment and with support from the project advisory committee, we strove to recruit participants who come from all over the province, represent a mix of traditional environmental NGOs, WPACs and more grassroots stewardship groups, gender balance, and include key representatives from Saskatchewan and Manitoba. We limit participation in Learning Network to 20 individuals. Participants were encouraged to commit to the program but register for one Learning Network at a time. In the event that a participant can not attend a subsequent session, another candidate will be invited from the project's waiting list.
