Purposeful Work with AI: Emerging Technologies for Environmental NGOs
Artificial Intelligence is reshaping how we work, communicate, and solve problems, but for mission-driven organizations, the path to adoption is often unclear and this program is specifically tailored for ENGOs to help bridge that gap. It moves beyond the hype to explore how generative AI can genuinely amplify your impact, streamline operations, and support your advocacy—without compromising team values.
Over the course of a few months these cohorts of ENGO leaders confront the risks, define the opportunities and gain hands-on experience with the tools that are already working for real-world mission-driven professionals.
The series will be offered annually and is being piloted in 2026 by the following ENGOs:
Birds Canada
Ecology Action Centre
Pembina Institute
Youth Climate Lab
Nature Canada
Green Economy Canada

Stand.earth
EcoAnalytics
East Coast Environmental Law

From Responsible AI Literacy to RAI Audit for ENGOs: Programs for ENGOs in Partnership with Skills4Good
Skills4Good AI evolved from the Responsible AI Literacy = AI Skills + Human Skills framework (the focus in 2025) to the Responsible AI Audit Standard when professionals need systematic AI audit verification procedures to use AI responsibly (the focus in 2026), not just AI awareness.
In 2025, 119 members of the Sustainability Network participated in a specially designed ENGO week-long RAI Starter Course. Upon completion of that introduction 17 graduates received sponsored spots in the 3 month Responsible AI Fast Track Memberships.
Participating ENGOs included:
Cohort 1, Fall 2025
Climate Catalyst
Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society
Recycling Council of BC
Nature Trust of New Brunswick Inc
Island Coastal Economic Trust
Seniors for Climate Action Now
Be the Change Earth Alliance Society
Student Energy
Oldman Watershed Council
Canopy Planet Society
Central Coast Indigenous Resource Alliance
IISAAK OLAM Foundation
Partners in Project Green
RE-AMP Network
Toronto Public Library
The Riverwood Conservancy

In 2026 the focus was Skills4Good's Responsible AI Audit as risk management around AI use. This program helps equip professionals using AI for research, drafting, and analysis with systematic procedures to manage the risks that AI outputs create. Responsible AI Audit puts a human in the loop: applying critical thinking and systematic guardrails to AI outputs before you rely on them professionally. Skipping this audit step exposes your clients, members, and stakeholders to AI risks, leading to sanctions, reputational damage, and possible professional discipline.
Audit skills provide the hands-on methodologies to manage these AI risks and protect your professional credibility. For ENGO executives this program helps protect against loss of leadership credibility (eg. Board interactions) and for ENGO staff it helps protect against regulatory scrutiny and reputational damage (stakeholder interaction).
